700,000 teachers, lecturers and civil servants could strike together in June. This would be a massive escalation in the resistance to ConDem policies.
There is a real possibility of coordinated strikes by the NUT, UCU, PCS and ATL unions, with one possible date being the 30th June.
The TUC demonstration on March 26th showed that there is huge enthusiasm for taking on the ConDem government. Union branches and workplace groups across the country took significant delegations to the march.
There have been a number of significant disputes in the last few weeks. 100,000 Lecturers staged a national strike – report here, 7,000 Teachers and council workers in Tower Hamlets and Camden struck together – report here, On Monday 18th April 7,000 Job Centre call centre staff will strike – report here.
Meanwhile 400 workers at BP Saltend continue to resist a lockout – see here
There is a growing call for co-ordinated strikes. The government can only drive their cuts through if they can take us on industry by industry, section by section, union by union. Every trade unionist should redouble their efforts to make sure we march together and strike together.
At their conferences over Easter both the ATL and NUT voted to ballot for strike action against attacks on their pensions. This brings the possibility of coordinated strike action on the 30th nearer.

I fully support anyone who chooses to strike – and will be joining those that do in solidarity. We should have a national strike; the only way to make the con-dems listen is to show them our might by withdrawing our labour. Students and workers UNITE AND FIGHT!
