Demo at Lib Dem conference – latest update

The first meeting of West Midlands Against Cuts (WMAC), a coordinating group of the regions’ anti cuts groups, met on 7th June to plan support for the  demonstration at the LibDem Conference in Birmingham on 18 September initiated by Right to Work and supported by the Regional TUC. The group is supported by all the anti cuts groups in the region and has strong links with Trade Union branches across the West Midlands.

Also on the agenda was support for strike action by ATL, NUT, UCU and PCS on 30 June. The meeting unanimously supported the view that this action to defend pensions needs to be seen as part of the wider campaign against cuts and privatisation. The meeting also started to plan for a day long anti cuts event later in the year to bring together activists and campaigners to focus on building the fightback against cuts and ConDem policies in a practical  and active forum.

The next meeting of the group is on Tuesday 5th July, 7.30pm in Birmingham PCS Office. (venue to be confirmed). For more information contact ianmurraymy@tiscali.co.uk or phone 07952647479.
