Following the huge TUC March for the Alternative on 26th March and the pension strikes on 30th June, the national demonstrations at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester on 2nd October and the Liberal Democrat conference in Birmingham on 18th September can act as major focal points for opposition to the Con-Dems in the Autumn. In doing so they can galvanise the growing support for both public and private sector action against attacks on jobs, terms & conditions, pensions and rights.
Working closely together with the regional TUCs, Disabled People Against the Cuts and others, Right to Work is building the demonstrations at both conferences. We’re working together in the planning process to ensure that the demonstrations have broad and sizable support.
Right to Work initiated the demonstration at the Tory Conference in Birmingham last October. Local and regional trade union branches played an important role in ensuring that the demonstration drew a wide spectrum of support with over 7,000 people demonstrating with many trade union and campaign banners.
We welcome your support – in whatever capacity you can give – in helping to publicise and build the demonstrations to make them as large as possible. In particular, we would ask that you officially back both demonstrations by adding your name as a sponsor, agree to make a donation towards the costs of the events and work with local trade union and anti-cuts groups to organise transport for the events. In addition, where possible, we would like to invite you to send a representative to the mobilising meetings that will be held locally.
Email us at info@righttowork.org.uk for details of local mobilising meetings.
We believe that mass demonstrations together with workers striking against the effects of austerity have the power to break Cameron, Clegg and the whole Con-Dem government –
and make sure that those who created the crisis pay for it.
In solidarity,
