Construction workers at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station today held a protest on the site gate. The protest was over a health and safety steward who has been suspended for six weeks.
It is a clear case of victimisation of a steward who’s prepared to stand up and challenge the bosses. SPIE Matthew Hall were one of the eight electrical contracting companies who were recently beaten by electricians, after they attempted to impose a new agreement, ‘Besna’.
The protest was called from last Saturday’s national construction rank and file meeting in Liverpool.
As protesters leafleted the cars driving onto site a long tailback was caused.
Workers drove onto the site and had meetings with their union reps. No SPIE workers worked today and the GMB shop voted to walk off as well.
Unite members are now deciding their next steps.
