Labour leader Ed Miliband has come under fire from The Action for ESOL network for his speech on immigration last month.
The network organises teachers, students and activists involved with teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and they have launched a petition condemning Miliband’s statement that blamed immigrants for putting pressure on housing and schools.
Action for ESOL say in the petition
“It is appalling that the leader of the opposition, Ed Miliband, chose, in his recent speech, to try to identify immigrants as a cause of lack of housing, lack of jobs and low wages. There is no evidence to suggest that immigrants are to blame for these social problems.”
And they propose an alternative:
“…maximum unity is essential in order to defend decent homes, jobs, and public services for all.”
