The bitter fruit reaped by the hated and flawed Work Capability Assessments was brought to the door of Government enforcers Atos yesterday in the form of a funeral procession with a coffin and a memorial.
Moving tributes were paid to those that had died after Atos had found them ‘fit-for-work’, many had taken their own lives, one poignantly with letters from the DWP informing them that their benefits had been stopped.
Flowers were laid at the coffin, which contained 100s of messages to Atos, an expression of the anger at the way this sponsor of the Paralympic Games is destroying the lives of disabled people.
After Tuesday, a day of rage against Atos in more than 20 towns and cities, Wednesday’s mood was more sombre, but no less effective for that.
It was a time to reflect and remember those who we wish could join us in the fight against this Government, it’s vicious policies and its rottweiler contractors that carry them out.
And a reminder of how much is at stake in the battle against the ConDems and Atos.
The fight continues until the movement bangs the final nail in Atos’ coffin.
